Within the framework of the action taken against the Communists, the authorities of VICHY were authorized by the Germans to create a internment center at DOULLENS. Thus the citadel was transformed into political internment camp in the current of 1941.

Approximately 300 people were held there: Communists, persons in charge for organizations of left, but so working and civils servant. The duration of their captivity spread out from 6 to 18 months.
